Introduction
In January 2024, our Superintendent, Rev’d Noel Sharp, issued a leaflet called “Public Issues Action Stations”. He urged us as a Circuit to take seriously the social, cultural and environmental implications of our faith. You can read this at wirralmethodist.org.uk/public-issues-action-stations/
This section of the website will be a place to publish materials and stories arising from this initiative.
A Justice-seeking church
A number of our members have been convening to consider the implications of one of the aspects of that call to action – what it means to be a “Justice-Seeking Church”. We began by thinking about our responsibility for “welcoming the stranger”, with insights provided in particular by St. Luke’s, Hoylake, and Trinity Ellesmere Port, both of whom are heavily involved in work with asylum seekers. The next area under examination is “Equality, Diversity and Inclusion”.
Peter Colyer has taken on the task of producing papers on the topics under review, including extensive Biblical references. These can be viewed and downloaded below.
