Celebrating and serving Jesus in Tranmere

Welcome to Tranmere Methodist Church. We are a small group of Christians with a big heart, serving Jesus in an area of deprivation within Birkenhead. Join us for worship, or participate in one of the local weekly activities.

Tranmere Methodist began its life as Wesley Church in 1862 and enlarged in 1875. Fondly known as a ‘Pepperbox’ due to the shape of the church, it used to seat 1,000 people as Wesley and the community of Tranmere developed together in the 1800’s. Mount Tabor Primitive Methodist Church and Wesley merged in 1965/66 and the new building emerged.

Tranmere Methodist Church is merged with Charing Cross and the two churches function together on different sites.  Tranmere continues to serve the local community.

The church address is: 1 Whitfield Street, Tranmere Birkenhead CH42 0LF
