Messy Church is an all-age fresh expression of church that offers counter-cultural transformation of family life through families coming together to be, to make, to eat and to celebrate God.
We have been running Messy Church at Greasby since September 2014, every third Saturday in the month, from 4.00-6.00 pm. We see it as a great opportunity for families to come, meet Jesus and worship Him as a family at a time which is more convenient for them.
We have a published theme each month, often forming part of a series, such as “Jesus growing up”. Of course, we also focus on seasons such as Easter. We follow the traditional format: an hour of activities – crafts, games – and talking through the theme, in the main hall, followed by twenty minutes of family worship in church, during which, children share what they have been making and learning about. After that, we share a meal together in the youth hall: we set it up as a restaurant and serve a different buffet-style meal each month.

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive – parents just want more! Our average attendance is 60-70 but it has been a blessing to share in fellowship with over ninety at one time.
We have a fantastic team of helpers – there are a wide variety of roles including the welcome team, the activity leaders, the worship team and those who provide a wonderful meal each month. It has been a privilege to meet so many who have never attended church before and we pray that families will continue to respond to the invitation, will feel warmly welcomed and will grow in faith as they come together to worship God as a family each month. – Sue Elliott
