St Andrew’s United Church has many positive things to report, one of which is our work with local primary schools. Our Minister, Rev Lorraine Aizlewood-Threlfall, has established links with two schools: New Brighton Primary School and Elleray Park School. She visits both schools, sometimes takes an assembly, and children come to the church for curriculum visits and for special occasions, including Experience Christmas and Experience Easter.
Experience Easter this year took place from 14th to 18th March. Six areas in the church were set out with different artefacts representing a part of the Easter story, and a story teller at each section. Small groups of children moved around the sections, hearing the Easter Story. In total over 300 children came to the church during the week, accompanied by a good number of staff and some parents. We have had some lovely “thank you” cards and letters, and even a video, from the children and very appreciative comments from the staff. For the story tellers, too, it was a very positive and rewarding experience.
We are looking forward to welcoming the children again in November for a Remembrance exhibition. – Sheila Fidler
